my husband had a bad case of mumps at 18, he was so swollen " down there" he missed his prom.
Yet we had 3 children by the time he was 27 so I think it doesn't always cause impotence

Mumps can cause infertility, never heard of it causing impotence........

Yeah, I meant infertile, not impotent. whoops. wrong word choice.

Stop the King taking off! It's the dramatic untold twist of the abdication crisis: how Edward VIII tried to flee the country in his private plane - and sent the Government into a tailspin:

The Daily Fail ratcheting up the drama of it all as usual! Still, Edward was an impulsive and irresponsible man and Britain was well rid of him.

This is what happens when you have an heir to the heir and wife who are a snooze fest.  Gotta find stories some where.

Do you believe that Edward VIII was emotionally prepared for the reactions to his decisions to abdicate and marry Wallis?

From all I have read, up until the last moment, he thought he'd remain King and marry her. Many thought Winston Churchill was the one who pushed him out, but Winston was the last man standing when it came to abdication. Edward never considered the consequences of his actions. I think he was unprepared to take the throne if his biographers are correct. He also never considered the fact that he would lose his title, and all the BRF land holdings as well as cash. He was in essence given a stipend, a new title, and a job far away from England. There is a book published on the letters between Edward and Mrs. Ward. It's good reading and one can see how Wallis was able to become his mistress. One can also see why Wallis actually did the Monarchy a favor in the end. JMO

To be fair, rather few royals were (or have been) well prepared for their role. Considering that crafts have been handed down from generation to generation with the result that each new generation improved and invented new and better to the point where we today enjoy cars instead of pulling a cart and live in warm comfortable houses instead of drafty huts, eat what we want when we want, the royal profession has suffered profusely from lack of craftmanship.
David (Edward VII) was ill-prepared to take over from his father, just as his father and his grandfather had been ill-prepared and so was QEII and none of that was a necessary Evil due to unexpected circumstances.
Had they been a shoemaker family I am convinced the heirs and spares would have been a lot better educated and prepared for taking over the family company.

Do you think that Edward VIII should have given up his succession rights when George V was still the King?
